With their excellent manufacturing quality, high specifications and attractive styling, Origin aluminium windows are excellent for general window replacements or a new extension. Origin aluminium windows come in two versions; the OW-80 and OW-70. Here is how to choose the right version for your particular project and the different features you get with each.

Your choice from the two Origin aluminium windows models depends on a few factors. These are your window design, the sightlines you prefer, the overall window sizes and the overall performance of these. However, you get some features, benefits and specifications as standard with either version.

First of all, is the quality of the materials. Both OW-80 and OW-70 windows come with high quality aluminium profiles with a built-in thermal break for insulation. Both are powder coated in various colours, with a professionally applied powder coated finish. And both window types come with premium quality window locks and handles, with high specification glass units. This means the same window quality overall, regardless of your choice. The differences then start with the sightlines, styling and other options.

Origin window sightlines and styling

OW-70 is the one to go with if you’re looking for slimmer windows. The overall dimensions of the OW-70 are less than the OW-80 as this window is designed for more contemporary house styles or where the property style calls for a less bulky window frame.

The frame sizes start at 65mm for the OW-70 and 91mm for the OW-80. So where would you use the OW-80?

The design of the more premium OW-80 is unique. It’s the only aluminium window on the market with a flush design on the inside and the outside. The OS-70, by comparison, is flush on the outside only. The OW-80 is your go-to window where its distinctive style appeals to you. As the profiles are larger, the OW-80 is also more robust.

As a result, it’s capable of pretty impressive window sizes. Opening windows can go up to 1.5m high, making this window ideal for more modern-looking frames with fewer mullions or transoms. OW-80 is also your ideal choice for creating special shapes, such as the popular gable windows frequently seen above folding sliding doors in new extensions.

The flush casement design of OW-80 also makes it suitable for replacing old thicker frames like timber, but still in keeping with your property style, but with a more modern aluminium alternative.

The OW-70 is slimmer, sleeker and has a different look inside the window with an overlapping frame. If your property has standard window sizes, it’s worth seeing the two windows side by side and deciding which one is best for you.

Security on Origin aluminium windows

There are no security concerns when choosing Origin aluminium windows. Both types have passed the latest security tests for your peace of mind. Both windows have the glass securely fixed on the inside, meaning it can’t be removed from the outside.

The OW-70 has a high security Nemesis Lock, with the OW-80 using a Yale Encloser system – a brand you’ll undoubtedly be familiar with for all sorts of locking systems and home security.

What Origin window is the most energy efficient?

Both types of windows meet the requirements of current Building Regulations having low U-Values depending on the glass you choose, promising a better-insulated window throughout.

If getting the best energy efficiency from your windows is a key factor, then OW-80 is very impressive. With triple glazing and the frame profiles enhanced with a thermal gel, OW-80 achieves U-Values of 0.8Wm2K – easily futureproofing your home with a superb, highly insulated aluminium window.

Choose the OW-70 when you want thinner windows at standard sizes and in standard or special colours. The OW-80 is better for more complex window designs, a Georgian style, larger sizes and when you want even more colour options, such as woodgrain aluminium windows and more colour options.
