Another impressive installation and delighted customers using Residence 9 Timber Look windows to a converted dairy building in Little Brickhill, Milton Keynes, Bedfordshire.
Residence 9 Timber Look – the perfect wood window replacement

This exceptional property in Little Brickhill, MK17 is a converted former dairy building, carefully adapted into a residential home while retaining its agricultural character. As with many barn and outbuilding conversions, the challenge was always going to be how to improve performance without losing authenticity.
The original windows and doors were dark brown timber, visually heavy and beginning to show the limitations of timber in a demanding rural setting.
Wood windows and doors of course are perfect for homes of all types and even we supply genuine wood windows and doors as part of our extensive collection. While they suited the building at the time of conversion, they no longer delivered the insulation, consistency or ease of maintenance the homeowners wanted.
LB Window Systems were recommended to the project by a FENSA Inspector, with the brief to replace what was already in situ with something more refined, better performing, and genuinely sympathetic to the building.
Residence 9. Windows Designed To Look and Feel Like Real Wood

This was never about modernising for the sake of it. The homeowners wanted to:
- Retain the appearance of traditional timber windows
- Improve thermal performance and security
- Reduce long-term maintenance
- Ensure the new windows suited the proportions of an old dairy building
- Match existing features, including garage doors and brickwork
The solution had to look right first, then perform better than the original timber.
We specified Residence R9 flush casement windows and doors, finished in Irish Oak externally and white internally.
Residence R9 is particularly well suited to heritage-style buildings, barns and rural conversions. Its deep profiles, true flush sash design and mechanically jointed corners closely replicate traditional timber joinery, while delivering the consistency and performance of a modern window system.
New Stable Door Replaces Old Wood Door

One of the doors was replaced with a Residence R9, desgined as a stable door. A charming addition and totally in keeping with the character of this old dairy building. Stable doors add both practicality and character, whilst offering ventilation half closed and a proper door at other times.
Why Residence R9 works so well on barn conversions

Converted dairies and barns often feature deep reveals, solid masonry and strong horizontal lines. R9’s proportions sit naturally within these openings, avoiding the flat or lightweight appearance that many modern windows can suffer from in older structures.
Key features include:
- True flush external appearance
- Timber-look joints, not welded corners
- Deep frames that suit traditional construction
- Excellent thermal performance
- Multi-point locking for modern security
The Irish Oak external finish adds warmth and texture, echoing the original timber windows and complementing the surrounding brickwork. Internally, the white finish keeps the rooms bright and avoids darkening the interior spaces.
Timber Look Windows by LB Window Systems. A clear before-and-after transformation
The difference between the original dark timber windows and the new Residence R9 installation is immediately noticeable. The building feels lighter, more refined and more cohesive as a whole.
Rather than changing the character of the property, the new windows accentuate it, allowing the architecture to do the talking.
This is one of those projects where the replacement glazing quietly elevates everything as well as providing better energy saving, security and interior comfort.

The completed installation enhances what was already a beautiful conversion. The new windows sharpen the detailing, improve comfort and reduce ongoing maintenance, while remaining faithful to the building’s history.
It’s no surprise this has become one of our favourite projects to date. The property genuinely has that rare “wow” factor, and the Residence R9 windows play a major role in bringing that out.
